The Mousetrap by Agatha Christie is the world’s longest running play and has been showing in London for 67 years in London. I’ve wanted to see it for 20 years and managed to catch it during its recent Auckland run. The show now moves on to Wellington and Christchurch.
Originally set in the 1950s this production has moved it into the 60s – in some ways, it feels a bit quaint – there’s some cliches and a touch of sexism in it, but the writing and the acting soon envelopes the audience and after the murder occurs, its impossible not to endlessly speculate who did it.
I was fortunate enough to talk to one of the veterans of the cast, Malcolm Terry – he plays Major Metcalfe in the play.
