Kia ora, I’m Andrew and today I’m looking at the movie Supernova. And let me say, I really wanted to like this film – honestly, I did – but…
Plot
A gay male couple who’ve been together for a long time go on a holiday in a camper van and someone throws them a party. One of the men is facing a major life crisis.
Acting
Colin Firth and Stanely Tucci are very good and experienced actors, but in this film there is very little chemistry between them and frankly their dynamic feels awkward.
6 out of 10 for acting.
Plot/Script
Essentially a lost opportunity. Too slow, and a lack of real intimacy or references to intimacy between two gay men makes this film impotent and dull.
5 out of 10 for story
Cinematography
Nicely filmed most of the time, but nothing particularly innovative, and too many scenes felt claustrophobic.
6 out of 10 for cinematography
Set/Costumes
A large proportion of the action takes place in a camper van – I don’t think they spent a lot of money on this film – and that’s all i’ll say about sets and costumes
5 out of 10
Entertainment
Long boring scenes where literally nothing happens make this film feel much longer than it is. And that’s a shame because it’s an important story to tell.
5 out of 10 for entertainment value
Average
Adding all those scores means Supernova gets an average of 5.4 out of ten – the lowest score I’ve ever given a film.
