Review: Halloween Ends doesn’t really slay

Four years after the events in Halloween Kills, murders start happening again, and Laurie Strode has to confront evil one final time.

First up, I haven’t seen any of the other films in this franchise, so I have no idea what’s happened before, but I’m guessing lots of people got killed.  As you can imagine in this one that happens too, and because most of the victims are pretty nasty you kind of root for the bad guy a lot of the time.

What surprised me is that the movie is really slow, and the film has a low budget 80s B movie feel to it. The cast pretty good, especially Rohan Campbell who portrays his characters descent into madness really well. But the movie seems to have an identity crisis as to what it is – should it be a comedy or a genuine thriller. The thrills are not that thrilling and the funny bits a little anaemic. This is a flick that needed to be camped up a bit and spend a little less time on its shaky romantic sub plots. I found it hard to feel empathy for anyone really.

And yet, having said all of that, it was strangely watchable.

So how did I score it?

Acting   7 /10

Story/Script 5 /10

Cinematography    7/10

Set/Costumes   7/10

Entertainment   6 /10

That gives Halloween Ends an average score of   6.4 / 10
