Review: Is Channing Tatum’s new movie a Dog?

Dog is a road trip comedy-drama in which Tatum plays a former American soldier suffering from battle trauma who has to transport a former army dog to the funeral of its handlers funeral.  The Problem is the dog is suffering from PTSD.

I was incredibly impressed by the story which sensitively handles post-war trauma in veterans and their animals without sensationalising, or being overly maudlin. There is a great balance between comedic moments and more sombre and emotional scenes.

Channing Tatum performs his role expertly and creates a character who has some emotional baggage but is also sensitive and caring. His canine companion also performs brilliantly and is an admirable co-star.

This is a very intelligently written film that is heartwarming with excellent performances. I highly recommend it.

So how did I score it?
