It’s a brand new year and while many of us have now returned to the grind, hopefully the wonderful summer weather in New Zealand is keeping our spirits up as we contemplate what 2019 has in store.
In any normal January queer folk across Auckland would be anticipating our upcoming Pride season with excitement and eagerly organising events, costumes or floats.
This year however, I suspect many will still be feeling upset over the very public stoush that occurred late in 2018.
Like me, you may also be feeling confused about this year’s Festival as there has been no official word from Auckland Pride about what events will be happening. Given that it is now three weeks till the event normally kicks off, this is somewhat surprising.
Today I emailed Pride asking for this information and will let you know when it becomes available.
What I can tell you is there will be some events such as the Big Gay Out, and the Same Same But Different Writer’s Festival happening but there is precious little information about anything else.
From my perspective, I intend to continue my coverage of the wider issues affecting Pride, but I also want to promote the fantastic events and happenings our community is creating.
So, since Pride has not yet let us know what’s going on, I’m inviting anyone who is in the process of organising an event in January and February 2019 to please get in touch with me and I will do my best to promote it. It doesn’t matter whether the event is officially part of Pride or not, just let me know.
I cant guarantee I will do an interview with you, but I will certainly do my best to get it out into the public arena.
