In this DC Studios film, Jaime Rayes is a young man who merges with an alien scarab to become the somewhat reluctant superhero Blue Beetle. With his family and an heiress, he has to battle a ruthless industrialist bent on world domination.

Ok – let’s start on the positives. The cast are well chosen and bounce of each other really well. It’s great to see a Latino family at the heart of the story and the special effects, fight scenes and soundtrack are pretty good.
Sadly, the plot is often slow and boring, and the attempts at humour fall flat. There are too many stereotypical characters some of whom were actually quite annoying, and overall this film just doesn’t quite work which is a pity since the premise and some of the scenes are actually well done.
I didn’t hate it, but I came away from it disappointed.
So how did I score it?
Acting 7 /10
Story/Script 4 /10
Cinematography 7/10
Set/Costumes 7/10
Entertainment 5 /10
That gives Blue Beetle an average score of 6.0 / 10
