Watch: Marcia Hines talks about cabaret and grief

Marcia Hines is an American-Australian singer famous for her beautiful voice and her kindness and nurturing style as a judge on Australian Idol. Here in New Zealand for the annual Cabaret Festival in Auckland, she talks to Andrew Whiteside about her music and how she deals with grief.

About the show Velvet:

Welcome to Wonderland… Boogie Wonderland!

After dazzling audiences around the globe, VELVET is coming to Auckland this September!

An electrifying journey into a world of glamour and abandon, VELVET is a raucous and seductive fusion of disco, dance, and circus. It redefines cabaret.

It’s a party, a showcase fueled by an exhilarating disco soundtrack that never lets up from the opening moments.

Directed by Craig Ilott with the original disco diva Marcia Hines at the helm, this spectacular homage to the disco age has it all – the glamour, the innocence, the hedonism. It’s surrounded by dazzling acrobatics, disco divas, and seductive chanteuses.

Musical director and mix master Joe Accaria leads an ensemble featuring Hula Boy extraordinaire Craig Reid, rising Australian star Tom Oliver, acrobatic wunderkind Mirko Kockenberger, sizzling aerialist Emma Goh, dreamy muscle man Stephen Williams, sassy sirens Kaylah Attard and Rechelle Mansour, and the legendary diva Marcia Hines.

Winner of the Adelaide Advertiser Best of Fringe 2016 and the Bank of South Australia’s Pick of the Fringe 2016. Don’t miss the opportunity to discover the disco inferno that is VELVET.

21 – 30 September 2017    Q Theatre, Auckland
