Creator of It’s a Sin says the stories are from his own life


In an interview with NBC News in America, Russel T. Davies said the inspiration for the hit show It’s a Sin came from his own life. He revealed that many of the stories in the series are based a friend of his. He also said that since many of the men who lived through the beginning years of the epidemic are now elderly, he felt it important to tell the stories before they pass on. 


Malaysian man wins a challenge against gay sex ban

A man in his 30s has won a landmark court ruling against Islamic laws which outlaw sex between men in the Malaysian state of Selangor. The unanimous ruling stated the law was unconstitutional and that authorities had no power to enact it. Despite the ruling, homosexual sex acts are still illegal under civil laws in Malaysia. 


South Korea’s first transgender soldier found dead

Sad news this week from South Korea as that country’s first transgender soldier was found dead in her home. Byun Nee-soo was discharged from the military after she underwent gender reassignment surgery.  She launched a legal challenge against the military in January last year over her dismissal but that was rejected five months later. As of today, the cause of death is not yet known. 



UK’s first queer retirement community to open in London

It’s being described as the United Kingdom’s first retirement community for LGBTQ+ people  and it is due to open mid summer in the UK. There will be 19 flats at Bankhouse in the central London suburb of Vauxhall. The complex was bought by Tonic Housing with a £5.7m loan from the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan. The mayor said “Londoners deserve to enjoy their later years surrounded by a supportive community.”
