In the latest instalment, Dom played by Vin Diesel is trying to be a good family man living off the grid, but his peace and quiet are shattered when his long lost and somewhat evil brother steals a piece of stealth technology. Dom gets his team together again to try and save humanity – there are explosions, chases, and even a car with a jet engine strapped to it.
Ok on first glance this film is absolutely ridiculous. The story is a little silly, and some of the action is so preposterous it’s actually really funny. Despite massive car wrecks and being blown up and shot at, none of the core cast receive more than a slight scratch or mussed hair. The villains meanwhile are not that scary, and the film is a little too long.
But those action sequences are extraordinary and incredibly well filmed, there are genuinely touching moments and some shocks. The characters, while a little two dimensional, are very likeable and the cast works well as an ensemble.
All up the movie is quite watchable, particularly if you just want a bit of wild escapism for a couple of hours or so.
