The Actors’ Program has joined forces with Auckland Live to present an electrifying new take on ‘A Doll’s House’ at The Herald Theatre this summer. Enticing vibrant, young Kiwi director, Kitan Petkovski, back from the Melbourne arts scene, The Actors’ Program will launch eighteen of the best new actors into the industry with this laser-like retelling of Ibsen’s classic.
“Alongside our annual short film, the graduation production is the pinnacle of the Program”, says TAP Artistic Manager, Benjamin Henson. “We only train actors who are at the cusp of great careers, so audiences have come to know our productions to be of great quality and vision. We’re stoked to be hosting a director of Kitan’s calibre, and his innovative design team.”
Now in its 11th year, The Actors’ Program has cemented its place as a leading actors’ training ground. Graduate successes include Zoe Robins in Amazon production, ‘The Wheel of Time’; Mana Tatafu in ‘Young Rock’ and Anya Banerjee joining the cast of ‘Black List’.
“At the beginning of this year,” continues Benjamin, “we were able to present our grad show in-house at the school, due to the Covid levels. Now we’re performing at The Herald, in the centre of town, in celebration of live performance returning to Tamaki Makaurau.”
Nora Helmer tries hard to be the perfect wife, the perfect mother, the perfect homemaker – but under the veneer she’s close to cracking. Finding herself at an impassable crossroad, Nora has a radical decision to make as secrets and lies tear at the seams, pulling apart everything she has ever known.
1918. 1968. 2018. This bold adaptation by Stef Smith reframes the drama of Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House in a cleverly intertwined contemporary retelling over three distinct and pivotal decades in women’s history.
Kitan Petkovski (The Gospel According to Jesus, Queen of Heaven) directs Smith’s award-winning adaptation for The Actors’ Program.
