Event: Day One Shorts – Sep 2023

Day One Shorts (formerly Someday Stories) is excited to announce a one-off Premiere film screening event launching this year’s series of eight short films made by new and emerging filmmakers from across Aotearoa! 

Come celebrate the launch of our films before they release online!  

Every ticket purchased will enable us to support up and coming filmmakers and future premiere screenings.

Day One Shorts is proudly funded by NZ On Air and Te Māngai Pāho. A shout out to our screepartners; RNZ and Whakaata Māori!

A short documentary on bipolar disorder, Taurewarewa explores the highs and lows of tides and emotions in a sequence of insightful kōrero framed against a backdrop of Aotearoa’s turbulent ocean.

Yeah Pare (scripted – comedy, adventure)

Lost at the night markets, Johnjohn tries to find his parents, while searching he befriends Junior, a child of a family working the stalls who takes him on a fantastical journey to find his loved ones.

Through her work in film, 28-year-old driven creative, Jzayla Hughey, is detangling the stigma of afro-textured hair, demonstrating that being natural plays a significant role in Aotearoa’s film industry.
