Watch: Blithe Spirit is good fun but at times a little flat

Blithe Spirit is a British film based on Noel Coward’s smash comedy from the 1940s – it’s a bit wacky – should you go see it ?

Plot

A best selling crime novelist suffering writers block inadvertently brings back the ghost of his ex wife – which leads to mayhem and a deadly love triangle.

Acting

A very experienced and famous cast give slightly over the top  theatrical performances as you’d expect with material based on a work by Noel Coward.

8 out of 10 for acting.

Plot/Script

It’s a good premise, but the style feels a little dated and farcical in the 21st century.

7 out of 10 for story

Cinematography

The film is shot to make the most of a sumptuous setting and has lovely tones and lighting.

8 out of 10 for cinematography

Set/Costumes

Gorgeous sets and costumes from the 1930s make the film sparkle

8 out of 10 for sets and costumes .

Entertainment

A nicely put together film, and kind of fun, but at times it’s a bit dull.

7 out of 10 for entertainment value

Average
